1 Day Shimba Hills Safari
5/5

Tour Overview

Shimba Hills National Reserve is a must-visit destination for any outdoor adventurer. The reserve is one of the biggest coastal forests in East Africa, making it an ideal place for exploring during a vacation. The reclaimed quarry land is now booming with lush vegetation and is home to some of Kenya’s majestic wildlife.

From wildlife watching and hiking to learning a bit more about the local culture, there are a lot of fun activities for everyone to enjoy. Here are some things you will do on your one-day trip to Shimba Hills.

Tour Itinerary

Game Drive
As we said before, the reserve is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including herds of elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes. One of the perfect ways to see all these is a game drive through the reserve. With the help of a guide, you will safely navigate the winding trails and get close to some of these great animals.

Visiting the Waterfalls
One of the places you will visit on your reserve trip is the legendary Sheldrick Falls. The isolated waterfall is surrounded by a vibrant green forest, which you can enjoy hiking to the spot. The beautiful rock formation and cascading clear water running down the falls make it an amazing background for selfies.

On the hiking trail, you will have a chance to see some of the other forest creatures you might have missed on your drive through the reserve. You can also cool down by swimming in the shallow pool of water below the falls.

Visiting Cultural Sites
Shimba Hills is home to the local Digo people, who have lived in harmony with the forest and its wildlife for hundreds of years. You will enjoy engaging and interacting with the local people during visits to their villages.

You will learn more about their traditions and even participate in some activities, including crafting and learning a few dance moves. You can buy a few souvenirs to remember the trip.

Bird Watching
Likewise, Shimba Hills is also an ideal place to visit for bird watchers. The reserve is home to more than 200 species of birds, both exotic and indigenous to the coastal region. From the top of the tree canopies to the grasslands, the whole reserve has singing birds you can hear throughout your trip.

Tree Planting
You will end the trip with conservation efforts by planting a few trees. Planting trees around the reserve is a fun activity many visitors enjoy. It helps improve the ecosystem and is a great way for families and guests to interact and socialize.

By the end of your one-day trip to Shimba Hills, you should have a new appreciation for the beautiful coastal landscape away from the sandy beaches. When you are ready for your next tour adventure, you can count on us to fulfill it.
